News Corp appoints Damian Eales publishing COO and Nicole Sheffield digital boss
News Corp has shuffled its management team in Australia in a move which sees Damian Eales take control of the company’s print operations and Nicole Sheffield take charge of digital as well as the company’s magazine arm.
The announcement comes just a fortnight after Siobhan McKenna joined News Corp to run its television interests.
Eales previously held the dual role of managing director for metro and regional publishing and chief marketing officer. His new title is chief operating officer, publishing. His responsibilities will cover the company’s eight metro and Sunday titles, 18 regional dailies and 100+ community papers.
Eales joined News Corp in 2013 as strategic partnerships director before being promoted to chief marketing officer. In July 2015, Eales moved into the role of managing director of metro and regional publishing following the departure of Fiorella Di Santo earlier that year.
Sheffield was previously managing director of News DNA (Digital Networks Australia). News Corp said Sheffield will take on additional responsibility for digital revenue growth and strategy, audience and subscription growth, content optimisation and marketing, and digital product innovation.
Sheffield, who joined the company in 2012 as CEO of News Life Media after a stint as general manager of Foxtel’s Lifestyle Channels group, will also retain her oversight of the News Life Media magazine division.
News Corp Australasia executive chairman Michael Miller said: “These appointments will ensure we meet our strategic priorities to maximise revenue and audience opportunities. It is important we adapt our business to respond to changes in market conditions and with these Damian and Nicole at the helm, it will ensure we are structured for future growth and success.”
In a statement, News Corp said the appointments complement other recent staffing changes within the organisation, including the appointment of Lou Barrett to executive general manager of network sales and Dominic Hatfield taking on the chief technology officer role.
Thanks for reprinting the press release. I would have though a byline at the top would have been justified if you’d added any information or analysis – ie:what’s been the internal reaction, tensions, sackings, future possible plans … you know the sort of things that justify a byline!
Otherwise I think it is a form of plagiarism
