Nine’s Go channel pulls controversial ‘Bloody Mary’ South Park episode

South Park, MumbrellaThe Nine Network’s digital channel Go has pulled a controversial South Park episode which was also shelved by SBS back in 2006 when the adult cartoon aired on the public broadcaster.

The “Bloody Mary” episode, which features scenes such as a bleeding Virgin Mary statue, will no longer air on Go at 10:30pm next Tuesday.

It has instead been replaced by an episode called “Christian Hard Rock” and is also the same episode SBS aired at the time it decided not to air “Bloody Mary”.

The original air date for “Bloody Mary” in the US was in 2005. It fell the day before the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, compounding the offence it caused to religious leaders and in particular the Catholic church.

TV Tonight, which first reported the scheduling of “Bloody Mary” on Go, said Nine decided to pull the episode following its article.

A Nine spokesman confirmed to Mumbrella the scheduling change, but declined to comment further on the reasons why.
