Nova stations now streaming on Apple TV

Nova's streaming radio stations are now on Apple TV
Nova Entertainment’s entire suite of digital radio stations are now able to be streamed on Apple TV, following the network’s launch on Google and Android TVs earlier in the year.
The stations can be found on Apple TV via four apps, representing Smooth, Nova, Adelaide talkback station FiveAA, and Central Coast’s Star 104.5, with the corresponding digital stations falling under each relevant category (Talk Sport on FiveAA; Nova Jamz under Nova; Smooth Chill in Smooth).
Nova worked with Apple in order to ensure the app design integrates with the Apple TV interface.
This follows the April launch of the radio network’s streaming stations to Google TV and Android TV. As Nova Entertainment’s director of digital strategy, capabilities and data, Michelle Golding, tells Mumbrella, this is part of a wider strategy to catch its listeners wherever they happen to be throughout the day.
“It’s very much a lean-in by Nova to really expand on ways that our listeners and our audiences can reach Nova, in an environment that works for them,” Golding says.

“If you take the life cycle of a listener throughout the day — on the go with the commute [to] at home — it’s about Nova being front of mind, but also being in a contextually relevant environment. How can we be there, where our listeners are, and deepen that engagement?”
The connected TV is often also connected to the household’s best sound system, so it makes sense for Nova to be blasted in high fidelity.
“This is a growing space, not just in terms of ownership of connected TVs, but also the listening that goes through those devices beyond just the traditional use case, which is video.”
She notes that, with the myriad of apps now available through those connected devices, “it’s also [about] having Nova there, alongside other apps as well.”
With increased distribution front of mind at the moment, Nova has plans to place its apps within other ecosystems as well, although Golding declines to go into specifics regarding future deals (Samsung connected TVs is a missing platform that would be a logical next step).
“We are exploring,” she says. “I think for us, it’s making sure that [it’s] where we can get the amplification. We’re definitely innovating and evolving what we do and how Nova and also the wider Nova brands, are across platforms where listeners want to listen.
“We’re definitely constantly looking and evolving in this space. So stay tuned.”
