Nova reshuffles Melbourne management as it prepares for 2015 radio battle
Nova Entertainment is parting ways with its Melbourne general manager Helen Davies at the end of the year with the company looking to “increase its focus on the competitive Melbourne media market in 2015”.
Davies has been GM for three years, with her role to be taken by Lou Higgins in addition to her chief operating officer duties for the company nationally, overseeing the Nova 100 and SmoothFM 91.5 stations.
Melbourne is set to be one of the key battlegrounds in metro FM radio next year, with the Australian Radio Network rebranding its Mix station to Kiis and bringing in Matt Tilley to partner Jane Hall in the Breakfast slot, as they look to challenge Southern Cross Austereo’s Fox FM for the market leadership.
Today also marks the last ratings day for the final radio survey of the year, with the audience numbers released on December 16.
Nova CEO Cathy O’Connor said: “The Melbourne radio market is the most competitive in Australia and these changes will ensure that we build on our current momentum and continue to deliver Melbourne the best content and client solutions in the market.
“We would like to thank Helen for the significant contribution she has made to the company as General Manager over the past three years.”
Higgins will relocate to Melbourne with her family in January 2015.
Helen’s one of the most warm, caring and inspirational leaders I’ve had the pleasure of working with. All the best Helen. Charlie

If Helen hasn’t already made plans I hope one of the other stations is going to snap her up.
She’s a legend at what she does and her staff love her. It’s rare to find those qualities in an industry person these days.
All the best Helen.

Helen welcomed me to Austereo with such warmth and was a bright, smart and reliable person to work with over many years. She’s highly respected and I actually can’t remember ever hearing a bad word said about her. No question Helen’s got a bright future ahead.

Too good for them Helen. You deserve better but you’ll bounce back! The good ones always do – and you’re certainly that!

Common thread of commentary is Helen was universally liked and respected by her own staff and competitors. I repeat I can think of a number of DMG executives who should have been front and centre way before HD was.
