Offspring finale rates well for Ten as Gruen makes a strong return

Offspring’s funeral episode took Ten to one of its biggest audience shares of the year last night, with the show rating 1.106m, the third most watched of the day after Seven News and Nine News.

Second in the 8.30pm timeslot was the return of ABC1’s Gruen Nation, which rated 1.028m, and was sixth for the night according to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTAM.

Nine’s Arrow rated just 648,000 in the 8.30pm timeslot, 18th for the night.

Meanwhile, The Hamster Decides, The Chaser’s take on the election campaign, rated 867,000, winning its timeslot.

Among the reality shows, Masterchef rated 923,000 for Ten while Big Brother rated 894,000 for Nine. Big Brother was beaten in its timeslot by ABC News and Home and Away.

Seven’s new improv show Slideshow, hosted by Grant Denyer, continued to perform well in its second week, rating 1.032m.

Ten had a particularly strong night in the advertiser-friendly demographic of 25-54, with Offspring top show and Masterchef second. Slideshow was third. Ten won the night in 25-54.

Among all people, Wednesday’s audiences shares were some of the closest of the year. Seven’s share was 19.4 per cent; Nine was on 18 per cent; Ten on 17 per cent and ABC1 on 15.2 per cent.

In the morning battle, Seven’s Sunrise had its third consecutive win with new co-host Samantha Armytage – beating Today by 391,000 to 341,000. Sunrise won in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. Today won in Melbourne.
