Olympian Jane Flemming to MC Mumbrella Sports Marketing Summit with Cricket Australia comms chief to talk about Phil Hughes tragedy
One of Australia’s most successful athletes Jane Flemming is to MC the Mumbrella Sports Marketing Summit, and host a panel on the issues around female sports marketing.
A former heptathlete Flemming competed at two Olympics and four Commonwealth Games, winning gold in Auckland in 1990 in both the heptathlon and long jump. Since retiring she has been an athletics commentator and sports marketing consultant.
Cricket Australia’s head of communications Jonathan Rose has also joined a session looking at crisis communications to talk about how they handled the intense media scrutiny following the death of cricketer Phil Hughes, who was struck by a ball last November while playing for South Australia.
The incident captured global attention and led to questions around player safety, as well as the #PutYourBatOut movement on social media.
Joining Flemming on the women’s sports panel will be Football Federation Australia’s commercial director Luke Bould, as the code seeks to get more attention from the media and sponsors for the women’s game after the success of the Matildas at the recent World Cup.
Other speakers joining sessions include Sports Geek founder Sean Callanan on the sports sponsorship panel, while the fan engagement session will include Zac Zavos, co-founder of one of Australia’s biggest sport fan sites The Roar, and Cricket Australia’s head of digital Finn Bradshaw.
They join the likes of Seven West Media’s chief revenue officer Kurt Burnette on a session looking at the Olympics, Nine Network Melbourne managing director Ian Patterson on a panel taking an in-depth look at sports rights, and sports futurist Stu Taggart who will join the question time panel.
More speakers will be announced soon.
The summit takes place on September 9 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Early bird tickets are now available here, and more details on the program can be found here.
This website is wrong!!!!!! Phillip Hughes did not die in December while playing for NSW, but he actually died in NOVEMBER playing for SOUTH AUSTRALIA at the SCG!!!!! As a South Australian myself, I feel unhappy about these wrong statements.
