Optus appoints former NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian to role

Telecommunications company Optus has appointed former NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian to the role of managing director, enterprise, business and institutional.

On the appointment, Optus CEO Kelly Bayer Rosmarin said: “Gladys is a proven leader who demonstrated her renowned strength, leadership, discipline, and composure in successfully guiding Australia’s largest state through one of the biggest challenges in its history while earning the support and gratitude of the community for her tireless contribution. She also builds and fosters loyal and dedicated teams who really go above and beyond for her.”

Berejiklian commented: “I am excited and proud to join an organisation that impacts the lives of millions of Australians every day and prides itself in providing outstanding customer service. Berejiklian was Premier of NSW from January 2017 until she announced her departure from politics in October 2021, following an ICAC investigation into her relationship with Daryl Maguire. She served as Transport Minister in the O’Farrell Government and then Treasurer in the Baird Government. Before joining politics,  Berejiklian held senior executive roles at the Commonwealth Bank, including as general manager, youth retail banking and government & industry affairs.

It is the latest major staff change at Optus, with executive head of streaming television and content Corin Dimopoulos departing after seven years at the company.

Optus has also recently partnered with Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, Officeworks and QMS.
