Osher Günsberg and James Mathison launch Idle Australians podcast

The original hosts of Australian Idol, Osher Günsberg and James Mathison, have reunited for a podcast with Acast.

The announcement:

The OG hosts of Australian Idol, Osher Günsberg and James Mathison are reuniting for their new podcast Idle Australians. Hosted and distributed by the podcast company Acast, the iconic pair are back to pay tribute to the unsung heroes of Australia.

The insightful new series shares an entertaining look at Australian history and culture and brings together two revered Australian voices for the first time in decades. Since their Idol days the pair
have followed different paths, with Mathison entering the world of politics and Günsberg solidifying his reputation as one of Australia’s most beloved TV and podcast hosts.

As part of the Acast Creator Network for more than 3 years, Günsberg joined Acast with his popular podcast Better Than Yesterday in 2018, and in 2019 launched the popular DadPod which he co-hosts with Charlie Clausen.

Guy Scott-Wilson, Acast Content Director for Australia and New Zealand, said: “Osher’s been a huge part of the Acast family since the early days of launching in this part of the world
and now we’re delighted to also welcome James as a podcaster.”

“As the home of independent podcasts in Australia, we pride ourselves on supporting local talent, supporting them to grow and monetize their shows in ways they choose. We look forward to working with Osher and James to make Idle Australians a success.”

Acast — the podcast company that works with some of Australia’s biggest shows — will host and distribute Idle Australians, making it available across all podcast apps and players, such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts. Acast will manage monetization of the show through ads and sponsorships.

Osher Günsberg, said: “I came to Acast because of how creator-centric they are, because alongside them I can make shows unbound by editorial intervention which I’d never be able to make on another platform. Largely because of that – I’m so excited to launch Idle Australians on Acast. James and I have known each other for over twenty years, and in that time we’ve never been able to have the kind of conversations we’ve shared between us in the public sphere.”

“James is the funniest, most intelligent person I know. At the same time as making me snort-laugh, he reflects on the world and the problems we all face like nothing I’ve ever heard before. To be able to explore the untold stories of Australian history and culture next to him brings with it a chance to reflect not only on how far we’ve come as a country but where we might go next.”

You can listen to Idle Australians on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
