Patrick Elligett returns to The New Daily as editor

Patrick Elligett, The New Daily’s former deputy editor, EDM editor and news director is returning to the publication as editor.

The news comes two months after the announcement he would leave to join La Trobe University as a subject co-ordinator covering online journalism.

His appointment comes after the resignation of Thomas Hunter, editor of The New Daily, who has taken up a senior communications role at RMIT in Melbourne.

Jackson Stiles has been appointed deputy editor.

He has continued to worked with The New Daily on a freelance and consulting basis.

Elligett joined The New Daily after almost a year as editor of the Sunraysia Daily in Victoria, and has also held roles at the Elliott Newspaper Group and the Rural Press.

Paul Hamra, publisher of The New Daily said: “Patrick has TND DNA and was a natural selection for the position following Thomas’s resignation.”

Earlier this year, the online news site appointed Stephen Leeds as its new commercial director.
