Pizza Hut on the hunt for a new CMO as Chet Patel is promoted to a global role

Pizza Hut Australia’s chief marketing officer, Chet Patel, has been promoted to a global role within the company.

Following this promotion, Pizza Hut has started its search for a new CMO, with an ad vacancy being posted on the brand’s LinkedIn page.

The new CMO will be charged with driving the strategic and operational direction and leadership from a marketing perspective to Pizza Hut’s 300 store network and restaurant support centre across Australia.

The CMO also manages three areas of business: the brand and retail marketing, social media marketing and performance marketing. In doing this, the CMO will manage a team of 6, supported by digital, media, creative, communications and research agencies.

Patel has been in the CMO role since May 2018, and had previously also worked in marketing roles for McDonald’s in New Zealand.

The announcement comes soon after Pizza Hut revealed that VMLY&R had won the pizza retailer’s creative account, following a competitive pitch process.

The account had previously been held by The Monkeys up until 2019 when the agency and brand parted ways.

Following the departure of The Monkeys, Pizza Hut brought about the return of ‘Dougie’, the character at the forefront of Pizza Hut campaigns across the 1990s. This return was coordinated by marketing agency Step Change on a project basis.

Upon the agency’s appointment, VMLY&R said it’s task is to help build on Pizza Hut’s momentum gained over the past 24 months, in a new delivery landscape forever changed by COVID-19.

Patel was contacted for comment, but did not responded in time for publication.
