Podcasting platform Whooshkaa adds top US programs to its roster

Australian streaming service Whooshkaa has inked a deal with US podcasting giant WNYC Studios that will make series including Radiolab, 2 Dope Queens, Freakonomics and Here’s The Thing with Alec Baldwin available to Australian advertisers.

The US podcaster, a division of New York Public Radio, joins fellow US podcaster Wondery on the Whooshka service along with local podcasters including Osher Günsberg and Wil Anderson and Charlie Clausen’s AFL podcast – ‘2 Guys 1 Cup.’

Whooshkaa Founder and CEO Robert Loewenthal: “This partnership will allow Australian listeners to hear targeted Australian content.”

“This partnership will allow Australian listeners to hear targeted Australian content in the advertising space on WNYC Studios podcasts, and allow Australian advertisers to reach even more local podcast listeners,” Whooshkaa Founder and CEO Robert Loewenthal said.

“We are proud to add WNYC Studios’ impressive stable of podcasts to Whooshkaa’s growing list, which includes shows from the Australian Radio Network, Wondery, Sky News, Fox Sport, the Sports Entertainment Network and more.”

Former Macquarie Radio boss, Loewenthal launched Whooshka in 2016 to offer a free online podcasting platform that would help local content creators monetise their work.

At the time of the platform’s launch, Loewenthal said: “Whooshkaa allows advertisers to target specific geographic locations or demographic profiles and receive accurate and timely information about listener numbers and the effectiveness of their campaigns. Some of our advertisers are even working on their own podcast shows.

“Instead of podcasters paying hosting fees to make their shows available, they can post their shows for free on Whooshkaa and collect the lion’s share of any advertising they attract.”

WNYC Senior Vice President Hal Trencher said the latest partnership would be good for both organisations: “Both WNYC Studios and Whooshkaa share an energetic and dynamic approach to podcast sales, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the podcasting industry. We are delighted to partner with them to better serve Australian advertisers and listeners alike.”
