PR Institute of Australia’s video show re-edited to remove participant
The first episode of the PR Institute of Australia’s PRTV has been replaced with a re-edited version minus one of those who took part.
As Mumbrella reported last week, the first episode of PRTV went live on the the association’s web site and on YouTube on Friday. However, after debate on Mumbrella, it was taken down at about 6pm and replaced with a version that did not feature Anthony Tregoning.
The original had featured the boss of FCR answering a question about whether his company recommended to clients that should engage with social media “such as blogs, LinkedIn and Facebook”. In it he replied:
“Basically no. Because they tend to be used by people who are trying to undermine the company.”
The apparently social media-sceptic answer was at odds with most of the other speakers in the piece.
Tregoning posted a comment on Mumbrella suggesting that he had been taken out of context. He said: “My statement was plucked from a discussion about ethics and investor relations, not social media.”
A few minutes later, a new version of the video appeared on the PRIA web site without his contribution.
PRIA national president Tracy Jones today told Mumbrella that although the association provided contacts for the producer of the video – Reputation TV – and hosted it, “we have no editorial involvement”.
Steve Cropper, the maker of the video, told Mumbrella that Tregoning had requested he be removed. He said: “It was his right to participate, and it was his right to choose to no longer participate.” But he said that the question and answer were recorded together and accurately reflected what had been said.

probably all a pre-meditated PR stunt to get column inches

@2 Nick
Agree. It’s either that or gross ineptitude for not vetting it first. Still a content-free, steaming pile.

Has anyone taken the time to watch the first episode of PRTV? I would be interested in you’re thoughts.
I can not remember a time when I was more bored and less enthused about a topic that actually interestes me. What is with the audio? presenter? interviewees? background? theme lighting? Amateur vidoes are better to watch, even when they are scratchy, wobbly and have crappy audio.
OMG that is possibly the worst set I have seen.

No Silla, you’ve got it all wrong… its supposed to look like it was shot in the 80’s… i think.

This is appalling. PRIA has a lot to answer for if this is the best it can do.

I totally agree Silla – I tuned out after the first speaker! They obviously wanted it to look and feel like the 7:30 Report (which might I add is a poor attempt!).
