PR professionals among the most stressed: LinkedIn research
PR and comms professionals are the most affected when feeling overwhelmed by the pace of workplace change, with nearly three in four fearing being left behind, according to new research from LinkedIn Australia.
The recent research, which surveyed over 2,000 professionals nationally, found that 91% of the comms cohort are seeking more guidance and support than ever before, a significant percentage compared to the national average of 63%.
73% fear being left behind in their career, compared to an average of 47% nationally. 71% are also unsure how to cope with how quickly their job is changing, compared to 40%.
Moreover, 74% of PR and comms professionals acknowledged that experience alone is no longer enough to successfully navigate the changing workplace, compared to 58% nationally.
30% of survey respondents said continuous learning is critical to help them stay ahead, while 44% said guidance is crucially needed on the skills required to evolve.
Overall, the biggest workplace challenges currently facing Australians include struggling to keep up with developing new skills (25%), advocating for personal needs such as flexible working arrangements or training with managers (25%), and proving their value amid the rise of AI in the workplace (25%).
Data has also found a 123% increase in posts mentioning flexible work over the past two years, as the work from home debate continues to roar.
Only 45% of survey respondents felt they can rely on their manager to help navigate change, and just 46% think their company’s leadership is helping them keep up.
“With constant changes in the workplace, such as how to use AI tools and adapting to hybrid work models, it’s no surprise that many professionals feel overwhelmed and worried about being left behind,” said Cayla Dengate, LinkedIn career expert.
“It will be important for workers to stay informed, upskill and continuously learn. Taking these small steps will help workers build the confidence needed to thrive in this evolving environment. Try to embrace change with an open mind, be adaptable and take charge of your career development.”
