Punters avoid Aussie Oscar hopefuls like the plague

Australian films might have had a major uptick at the box office in recent months, but it seems that faith in the product isn’t translating for local Oscars hopes.

Today online betting firm Sportsbet said just $23 has been bet against the two local hopefuls for the awards, which are announced on Monday.

Unsurprisingly Sportsbet have now declared the Aussies have no hope of winning.

David Lee is at $21 for his work on Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken in Best Sound Mixing, but has attracted just the one bet of $2.00!

Tim Crosbie’s team has slid from $13 to $34 for Visual Effects work on the X-Men movie Days of Future Past after attracting only two bets totalling $21.

“There’s less interest this year from an Aussie perspective but even the two hopes we have are being given a wide berth by punters,’’ said Sportsbet’s Will Byrne.

Dr Mumbo is sure things will be very different next year.
