Rob Pyne swaps media agency OMD for News Ltd
Media agency OMD’s strategy director Rob Pyne is to join News Digital in a role designed to help the media owner come up with new and creative advertising executions.
Announcing the appointment, NDM’s chief commercial officer Ed Smith said: “Advertising online provides more media execution possibilities than any other form of media. Rob and his team will lead the thinking required to turn these possibilities into outstanding business results for our clients.”
Pyne – who has been with OMD for three years and is also deputy chairman of the Media Federation Awards Committee – will be NDM’s head of media strategy. Before OMD he was business director at Universal McCann.
Pyne said “I’m hugely excited to be joining News Digital Media at a time when the company is reporting record growth and representing the most engaging websites in the country.”
Yeah NDM needs another strategy resource to aid them removing their heads from their own posteriors

Doing what NDM and News Ltd do best – adding more middle-management strategists to host more meetings to come up with more iterations of the bleedin’ obvious.

Rob’s a good guy and any strategy NDM had would be far better than what that they are operating on right now. Strangely, why it’s just then advertising based when it has far more serious content and brand issues to address than go across the group – seems to indicate the general lack of a strategic mindset.

Personally, I think this is a bold move by NDM – let’s hope it’s more than just a gesture.
