Rowing Federation appoints Global Television to broadcast Sydney Regatta

The International Rowing Federation and Rowing Australia have appointed Global Television as broadcast technical facilitator of next week’s 2013 Sydney International Rowing Regatta.

The announcement:

The International Rowing Federation (FISA) and Rowing Australia have appointed Global Television as broadcast technical facilitator of the 2013 Sydney International Rowing Regatta.

The Global Television team will also direct and package a ready-to-air broadcast over three days of elite rowing competition in association with the Australian event TV producers, Beyond Action.

Angus Millar, one of Australia’s leading live sports television directors, will lead Global’s coverage. He will work alongside Steffen Rapp of World Rowing Productions, producers of international FISA events.

This is the first time Australia will host the opening round of the FISA Samsung World Rowing Cup.

Frank Chidiac, GM of Beyond Action, said: “Global Television are without doubt Australia’s leading broadcast facilitator and the Beyond sports team are pleased to be working alongside them to deliver this world class event. Having Angus Millar directing is also a huge bonus for the coverage given his extensive experience.”

Rowing Australia CEO Andrew Dee said: “With an event of this magnitude, it’s comforting to know the broadcast team are some of the industry’s leading professionals.”

Global Television Director of Television and Commercial, Soames Treffry, said: “With Global both facilitating and directing event coverage, FISA and Rowing Australia avoid the need to bring large crews to Australia for the Sydney International Rowing Regatta and 2013 World Cup. We are providing an end-to-end service where the clients can be confident of a polished, world-class broadcast.”

Angus Millar is known throughout the Australian sports broadcasting industry for his exceptional grasp of both technology and current broadcast techniques. He boasts more than ten years’ experience directing live sport and studio productions spanning NRL, Super Rugby, A-League Football, Moto GP, athletics, boxing and tennis.

The 2013 Sydney International Rowing Regatta will be held at Sydney’s International Regatta Centre, Penrith, from 18th – 24th March. Elite crews from around 20 nations, including a large Australian team, will compete.

Fox Sports Australia is the broadcaster and will air coverage of the domestic events on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd March, and four hours of live international coverage (the opening round of the FISA 2013 Samsung World Rowing Cup) on Sunday 24th March.

Sunday’s World Cup coverage will also be transmitted to an international audience via the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
