Russ Vine to head up The Comms Council’s Queensland committee

The Communications Council has appointed Russ Vine to chairman of the body’s Queensland committee.

The announcement:

Russ Vine, Managing Director of Brisbane agency Junior, has been appointed the Chairman of The Communications Council’s Queensland Committee at its recent member meeting.

Russ takes the role as Chairman with the intention of driving greater local buy-in to Committee activities and to champion creativity and its correlation to effectiveness.

In particular, Vine said the Committee will be working toward more interaction with the marketing community on the client side to foster a long term culture where standout creative solutions are better weighed and measured. Specific projects will be undertaken to help improve pitch and procurement practices client side, focusing on Queensland specific ‘best practice’ on the procurement of agency services by Government, NGOs and public authorities.

“I’m delighted to be coming on board. The breadth, depth and quality of agencies slugging it out up here in Queensland is genuinely stunning and as the new chair of the one organisation that can really claim to span our industry quite so completely as The Comms Council does, I’m excited about working with representatives from the various member agencies to successfully get a few projects up and running.” he said.

CEO of the Communications Council Margaret Zabel said: “We welcome Russ as the State’s new Chairman and hope that his coming on board will create the momentum and member buy-in the local market needs”.  The projects the Committee intends to take on fit within the broader Communications Council agenda, so we look forward to providing the expertise and support Russ needs to succeed.”

Vine’s agency Junior is 80% owned by STW Group and has a staff of around 50, with key clients including Bank of Queensland, Griffith University, Echo Entertainment Casino’s, Queensland Newspapers, Brisbane City Council and Dreamworld Theme Parks. Currently the MD of the agency, Russ started in advertising some 19 years ago as a graduate trainee at Ogilvy & Mather London. Following subsequent spells at Bartle Bogle Hegarty and JWT, Russ emigrated to Australia five years ago to take up a position at Junior as the agency’s GM & Planning Director, before becoming the agency MD in 2010.
