SBS Board gets a referesh

The Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) Board has seen two new appointments this morning, with Vic Alhadeff as a non-executive director and Christine Zeitz assigned deputy chairperson.

The announcement was made official this morning by Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, Paul Fletcher. Zeitz has been a non-executive director on the board since 2018, while Alhadeff is a new member.

Alhadeff has a long history campaigning against racial violence, as well as leading a successful campaign for legal reform on violence based on race, religion, gender or sexual identity.

The minister said that pair will bring a “wealth of knowledge and expertise” to the board, that will help them to understand the SBS’s audience’s needs and interests.

“I congratulate Alhadeff and Zeitz on their appointments and look forward to seeing the valuable contribution they will make to the SBS board.

“They will strengthen the already diverse skills available to SBS’s leadership team, including in areas such as the Asia Pacific and multicultural affairs.”

Alhadeff is currently a part-time consultant with the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, after stepping down as CEO earlier this year, and is on the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, in addition to being a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He has a range of experience in media and multicultural affairs, and was also previously the chair of Multicultural NSW. Alhadeff has been appointed for a five year period.

Zeitz has been on the SBS Board since May 2018, and is the GM of the Asia Pacific region for Northrop Grumman Corporation, “responsible for all aspects of growth, program awards and the execution and financial performance in the Asia Pacific”. Zeitz has been appointed until the conclusion of the term for her incumbent role.

Both start immediately.
