The science of seagull journalism
This week saw Hungry Jack’s come out with a clever marketing stunt announcing new “anti-seagull chip packaging”.
Dr Mumbo can’t help but notice that the Australian media has more than lapped up the story and were, in fact, eager to test it for themselves…
Among those who did videos testing was the Manly Daily, which asked residents Kelsey Goodwin and Kade Fallins to test the reflective chip packaging by having them stand on the beach holding out the chips as a flock of seagulls circled them:
Dr Mumbo also enjoyed 7 News’ Josh Adsett’s “scientific” approach to testing the chip wrappers by literally chasing the gulls with the iridescent packet, and repeatedly asking the question: “Are you scared? Are you scared?”
But the winner of the award for most cruel and unusual punishment of a reporter in a seagull story has to go to Pedestrian.TV which sent news editor Chloe Sargeant, who is terrified of birds, to get up close and personal with the seagulls at Bondi…
The video makes for some very entertaining viewing.
