Securing a new power base: An update on the Unmade adventure
Welcome to Unmade, kicked off on Wednesday lunchtime in the amazing Cuppa, Cake & Collectibles tea shop in Sisters Creek.
Only in Tasmania can you order a jacket potato, pot of leaf tea and home made chocolate brownie, plus a can of Pepsi Max for later, for just $11.50.
Happy Separation of Church and State Day. Maybe we’ll celebrate it properly in Australia at some point.
Today’s writing soundtrack: Sea FM Burnie. It’s a rare day that they’re not playing Jack and Diane. This was not that day.
“And I should offer longer, more analytical pieces once or twice a week. I’ve a hunch that nobody has time to read 2,000 words every day. But I could be wrong about that.”
While what Fergus said reflects part of the reason why I’ve subscribed, another aspect is (as someone who is interested in the media) I’ve enjoyed reading the long analysis pieces you’ve written on a regular basis Tim since Unmade launched. Such long-form writing about the media is something that is hard to find these days.
+1 to Fergus’ comment below. Genuinely enjoying the read – and worth noting it’s the only newsletter that I let land in my inbox. All others are channeled to a ‘newsletter’ folder which I may read – but often don’t.
Happy to be a subscriber, and I also wanted to provide an extra data-point on audience’s motivation to subscribe: counter to your guess that subscribers might be paying to support an independent voice, and speaking only for myself; it’s more because you’re offering a unique and useful service. That’s perspective, sense-making and information that I wouldn’t get anywhere else. So, I’m not paying to support and abstract idea: it’s a value proposition.
