Seven takes week one of official ratings in narrow win as Nine’s netball debuts

The Seven Network has emerged as the winner of week one of the official ratings season after seven days of audiences see-sawing between Seven and Nine.

Suncorp Super Netball made its debut on Nine’s Gem on Saturday.

Seven eked out a 21.4% share for the week, ahead of Nine’s 20.7%, while Ten fell behind the ABC with a share of 12.4% compared to the ABC’s 13.1%.

“Reality” shows ruled the roost with Monday night’s My Kitchen Rules on Seven the most watched show of the week with an audience of 1.15m, while Married at First Sight on held an audience of 1.116m.

Both MKR and Married managed to keep their audiences above one million for every showing.

Ten’s big reality bet, I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, managed a top audience of 911,000 on Thursday, outside the top ten shows of the week.

While missing the overall win, Nine won the week in the 16-39 and 25-54 demographics.

Saturday saw the debut of the Suncorp Super Netball competition on Nine’s Gem, with 123,000 tuning in to the Collingwood clash with the Melbourne Vixens at 7pm in on of three season openers.

The sport was outmatched by the women’s AFL on Seven which only played in Melbourne and Brisbane but drew 182,000.

However, the netball launch has been seen as positive start for the series as women’s sport continues to grow in interest.

The ABC continued its usual Saturday night success with the top two shows – Death In Paradise at 7.30pm with 891,000 and the news at 7pm with 770,000.

Nine won the commercial general entertainment stakes with the Paul Hogan movie Crocodile Dundee at 7pm which drew 528,000, followed by The Castle at 9pm with 464,000.

Ten’s best general entertainment showing was an encore presentation of Bondi Rescue with 187,000 at 6pm.

The tables, sourced from OzTAM data and prepared by Nine Network include only main commercial networks, not ABC and SBS.
