The announcement:

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) Executive General Manager Tasmania, Ally Bradley, today announced that Seven Tasmania journalist, Louise Houbaer, has been appointed news anchor, for the Weekend Nightly News on Seven Tasmania.

Houbaer’s passion for reporting comes from her bloodline, with both her parents working as journalists. Her career at Seven Tasmania began four years ago after graduating from her journalism degree at the University of Tasmania (UTAS).

Houbaer is a versatile journalist who has covered all disciplines of reporting from legal, to sport and politics as a reporter for Seven Tasmania’s weekday news. She plays a key role within the Nightly News program, having delivered many live crosses and breaking news events, including the COVID-19 outbreak.

SCA Director of News – Tasmania, Grant Wilson, said: “I’m delighted to announce Louise as our new weekend news anchor at Seven. She has strong and diverse journalism credentials and is an engaging, warm television presenter.

“To see a local journalist rise through the ranks and be rewarded for their efforts is great for them and the entire team.”

Houbaer said she is excited, shocked and honoured to be appointed to this role.

“It’s been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember to be a newsreader, and to be able to fulfil that here in my beloved home state, is still a bit surreal.

“Seven Tasmania News is the state’s most watched and trusted news for a reason, people in their thousands have continued to tune in during times when they crucially need information.

“I’m looking forward to our loyal viewers joining me every weekend to hear what’s making news around the world, and locally. Without our viewers, we wouldn’t be here, and we are so grateful for their loyalty and trust in us to deliver news to them every night.”

Houbaer joins Weekday Presenter Kim Millar, Sport Presenter Tom Johnson and Tasmanian Television’s most well-known Weatherman Peter Murphy.
