Seven wins closest TV ratings week of 2009

A good showing on Friday and Saturday saw Seven come from behind to win last week’s TV ratings battle with Nine by the narrowest of margins.

In the end, Seven took a 27.7% primetime share of the ratings, while Nine was just behind on 27.4% despite leading for much of the week. According to the preliminary OzTam TV ratings, Ten clocked up 23.3%, while the ABC was on 16.9%. SBS was on 4.7%.

But Nine will have been cheered by its ratings performance in Sydney and Melbourne, where it narrowly won bigger shares for the week than Seven.

With the Easter break from the offical ratings period imminent, Seven has already opened a lead for the year to date that it is going to be tough for Nine to break. Between the three main free-to-air players, Seven has a 37.5% share; Nine has 33.5% and Ten has the remaining 29%.
