Seven’s Secret Daughter season premiere falls by 387,000 from last year

The premiere of Seven’s drama Secret Daughter was down by almost 400,000 metro viewers from last year’s season premiere.

Starring Jessica Mauboy, the show attracted 512,000 metro viewers last night, while last year Secret Daughter premiered with a metro audience of 899,000.

The show failed to beat ABC’s Gruen, which ran in the same time slot with 840,000 metro viewers and was the most non news program for the second consecutive week.

Gruen also topped all key advertising demographics – 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54s.

But Secret Daughter did beat Ten’s drama Sisters, which managed 251,000 and Nine’s Fast and Furious 7’s metro audience of 307,000.

Earlier in the evening slot Seven nabbed the win, with the second episode of Instant Hotel attracting 583,000 metro viewers.

Instant Hotel placed second in the 18-49s, third in the 16-39s and fifth in the 25-54s.

Seven’s show beat Nine’s Family Food Fight’s audience of 500,000 metro viewers, and Jamie’s Quick & Easy Food on Ten which had a metro audience of 331,000.

ABC’s Hard Quiz, which commenced at 8pm, pulled in 678,000.

On the news front, Seven won the night with 963,000 metro viewers ahead of Nine News’ 880,000.

It was a close battle in the average audience shares, with OzTAM’s overnight preliminary ratings reporting Seven’s share at 18.6% and Nine’s at 18.5%.

In third was ABC’s 14.8%, Ten’s 9.2% and SBS’ 5.8%.
