Rafter’s comeback and Stosur’s appearance helps Seven win the night

Live tennis helped Seven win the largest share of the free TV audience last night as the match lineup of Aussie players drew in 828,000 metro viewers throughout the prime time schedule, according to OzTam.

Preliminary overnight metro ratings show day three of the Australian Open, in which Australian Samantha Stosur won her match in straight sets, and Pat Rafter and Lleyton Hewitt’s new doubles partnership lost in two, helped Seven win a 23.9 per cent share of the audience from 7pm.

The late night session of the tennis had 507,000 viewers, with zero watching in Perth where the evening session was shown on 7Two. Seven’s Tennis averaged 444,000 for play during the day, ranking 17th and 18th in all programs. The Australian Open had a total of 333,000 viewers on multichannel 7Two.

Meanwhile Ten’s tight cricket match between the Sydney Sixers and Hobart Hurricanes in the T20 Big Bash League averaged 610,000 viewers for the second session on from 7.30pm and 591,000 for the post-game analysis.

Channel Nine had a lineup of real-life crime and investigation dramas including a repeat episode of RBT, second in its timeslot with 729,000, a new episode of Hostages and two repeat episodes of CSI.

Hostages was fourth in its timeslot after the sport on Seven and Ten, and Kevin McCloud’s Man Made Home on ABC1. The American drama series starring Australian actress Toni Collette had 427,000 metro viewers and was 20th for the night, however Hostages was also the most time-shifted show last week as it gained 92,000 viewers after the live program was aired. The increase saw the audience rise from 429,000 to 522,000 during the week.

CSI and CSI: New York , also on Nine, were the second and third most time-shifted shows last week as they gained 65,000 and 59,000 viewers respectively. Last night Nine’s two episodes of CSI at 9.30pm and 10.30pm failed to make OzTam’s top 20 programs.
