The announcement:

Marketing at retail has a shiny, new home in Australia, with the announcement that Shopper Marketing LIVE will be held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, next May.

Devoted exclusively to the growing focus of shopper marketing, the three-day international conference and exhibition will provide the Australian retail marketing community with a major forum to share information, lessons-learned and new perspectives from the new era of retail marketing.

Shopper marketing, the strategy that incorporates an integrated, 360 degree approach to engaging and influencing consumers at all touch points along the path to purchase, has exploded on a global scale. A 2008 report by the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) in conjunction with Deloitte Consulting found that in the US, shopper marketing activities would grow at a higher rate than any other marketing tactic, over the next three years.

According to the report, the growing number of companies that had embraced the concept of shopper marketing were reaping significant rewards, with 73 per cent of consumer packaged goods (CPG) manufacturers and 86 per cent of retailers listing shopper marketing programs among the top four initiatives that delivered meaningful return on investment. Also, those companies that had implemented shopper marketing as a key component in their marketing programs had grown 50 percent faster than the categories that they participated in.

Shopper Marketing LIVE event director Mark Harvey said marketing at retail had changed and the retail environment is was as complex as it had ever been.

“Consumers have increasingly taken control of the buying process and both brand manufacturers and retailers must now be more attuned to every shopper, better understanding who they are and how they shop, in order to tailor the shopping experience accordingly,” Harvey said.

“The potential gains in shopper marketing are far too compelling to be ignored. Manufacturers, retailers and their agencies must increase their knowledge and investments in shopper marketing in order to win market share and succeed at retail,” he said.

Produced by National Media – the company responsible for the hugely successful Online Retailer Conference & E-Commerce Expo – Shopper Marketing LIVE has been developed to help brand manufacturers, retailers and agencies better understand the opportunities and challenges of best practice shopper marketing.

“Retail marketers are quickly discovering that by using shopper marketing programs to enhance the shopping experience for customers in-store, out-of-store and on-the-go, they are able to effectively engage the shopper, influence their purchase decisions at the moment of truth and boost long term brand loyalty,” said Harvey.

Shopper Marketing LIVE will provide marketers will the necessary insights, intelligence and connections to create and execute world class programs. The event will bring together from around the globe the best minds in shopper marketing, to deliver what promises to be the most paradigm-shifting program of retail marketing content, ever experienced in this country.

The event will feature a combination of keynote addresses, panel discussions, individual presentations, and peer-to-peer roundtable discussions across six-themed learning tracks. Topics will cover all aspects of shopper marketing including out-of-home media; in-store and experiential marketing; shopper insights and engagement; loyalty and CRM, promotions; online, social and mobile marketing; measurement and ROI; retail collaboration and partnerships; strategy alignment; as well as the challenges that can often hinder execution.
