SMH maintains top spot as most read news brand

The Sydney Morning Herald has maintained its top spot as Australia’s most read news brand, according to Roy Morgan Research.

Data showed Nine Entertainment Co-owned publication attracted 8.7 million readers across print and digital, up from its 8.4 million on figures released in August.

Fellow Nine stablemate The Age was the second most popular, with 6 million readers, ahead of News Corp’s The Australian with 5.4 million, The Daily Telegraph with 4.9 million and Herald Sun with 4.7 million.

The data is based on the last four weeks averaged over the last 12 months ending September.

The Sydney Morning Herald was also Australia’s top masthead, in the 12 months to March 2021.
