SMH Title Deeds column to get new columnist Lucy Macken
Fairfax’s celebrity real estate news column Title Deeds is to get a new columnist with Fairfax confirming the departure of Margie Blok.
Mumbrella can reveal that property reporter Lucy Macken is to take over the role after the departure of Blok, whose contract finished this week.
“Title Deeds remains an important part of Domain’s offering with property specialist, Lucy Macken, taking the reins,” said Stephen Nicholls, property editor, Sydney Morning Herald.
It is understood the Herald plans to expand its prestige property reporting with Macken to take the title of prestige property reporter and be required to file for online, including video, the title deeds columns and throughout the week across the various platforms.
“We thank Margie Blok for her contribution over the years,” said Nicholls.
“Lucy is a very well respected property journalist and well-connected in the real estate industry. She will deliver valuable perspectives, insights and news across all of our platforms – print, online, tablet, mobile and video – throughout the week.”
Blok took over the Title Deeds column in 2011 following the departure of Jonathan Chancellor who left to launch the website Property Observer.

Title Deeds is a terribly sad case of RealEstatePorn and writing for the 1%. So typically old-school Fairfax when that is precisely the direction they need to be moving away from.

Sad to see Margie Blok go – I liked her spin on the 1%! … let’s hope Ms Macken carefully checks all details she writes before she commits them to print!
