Soccer AM, Down Under
While you’d have expected English football fans to sink into a post-World Cup depression following the country’s dismal performance, happily the expat appetite for TV soccer isn’t so easily destroyed.
So Dr Mumbo is delighted to hear that a long-running campaign by Mumbrella’s sister website Footy Fans Down Under has succeeded – cult British TV show Soccer AM is to be shown on Sunday mornings on Fox Sports.
According to the announcement from Fox Sports: “For the first time on Australian television, football tragics will also be able to watch a weekly package from the immensely popular and award-winning British football variety show, Soccer AM.”
Regular viewers of Australia’s own Footy Show may notice some similiarites in outlook.
What about Match of The Day?

Do not insult Soccer AM by comparing it to the Footy Show ! This is the best fan based TV programme in the world.

“It will never last”…
Would prefer to see Jeff Stilling, Chris Kamara and co. with Soccer Saturday however this is a good start.

Third Eye is a great segment. Bring it on. Hope to see some Reading FC content though…..

Interesting that the geezers living in Australia whinge when we refer to their game as soccer instead of “football” and yet even the Poms call their TV show “Soccer” AM.

have never heard of footy fans down under – i went to the site, and judging by the forum, no-one has….are you SURE it was the campaigning of this site that has brought about Soccer AM being shown on Foxsports?!

Soccer Am was agood show when Tim Lovejoy was male host (never liked the word Soccer in the title though.) Like Graham White’s post I would rather see Jeff
Stelling et al. Butif you really want a fans football show on AUS TV then campaign for BADIEL and SKINNER…priceless!
As for the footy shows supposed campaign..no self respecting Englishman would refer to the beautiful game as Footy….. even worse than the “S” word.

Agree that this is one of the best examples of the term Soccer being used in Britain – in the title of this very popular soccer show. Yes even in England it is “Soccer”!

Troy…you’re having a fkin laugh… the titled was coined by some suit in the Sky offices…. in the real world the beautiful game is not referred to with the “S” word. The yanks coined it..still they did change the name of those girly sports…netball to basketball and rounders to baseball …

Soccer, Football, whatever!? Finally some lower league stuff for us to watch. Can’t wait to see the Orient highlights, Huddersfield Town gain promotion and even Dagenham and Redbridge!
