Music production studio to capitalise on record labels’ shifting revenue streams

Former Sound Reservoir partner Matt Hayward has teamed up with Alex Gomex, also formerly from the post-production house, to set up music production company, Eclectic Music.

The duo are hoping to cash in on the growing trend among major and independent record labels to license recorded materials for use in TV ads, movies and TV shows as revenue from CD sales continue to dwindle.

Hayward said the studio will act as a conduit between musicians and their record labels, and the agencies and marketers interested in using their songs.

“In the past placing music in TV, film and advertising wasn’t one of the record labels’ main sources of income. But now they’re being more aggressive in seeking that business. And that’s where we come in,” he told Mumbrella.

“Record companies don’t have much experience in dealing with marketers and agencies. They’ve historically been more used to record shops and even journalists.”

Hayward added that their is potential for Eclectic Music to work with record companies and their artists to create original material for marketers.

The music production company also specialises in composing music in-house for advertising and films.

Eclectic Music does work for BMF, BWM, Radical Media, Lowe Hunt and it recently worked on a project for MTV.
