Not real sure its fair to call racism on any policy that isn’t a utopian dream where Australia saves all the refugees in the world.
Its clear the liberals blow the dog whistle with their their queue jumping, non-deodorant wearing, big red arrows pointing, illegals campaign.
Whilst i am sure there is political motivation in relation to the ignorance in the electorate, I think its unfair to judge the policy in some sort of morally pure vacuum. Allegedly progressive voters that are howling today cant see the wood for the trees. If this new arrangement works – deaths at sea will drop, Australia’s settlement numbers will remain the same or increase plus people will be settled in PNG on the Australian taxpayer.
A few refugees who don’t get to the country of their choice is the collateral damage. Is it racist to think that if you chose to abandon your country through fear, that you should be OK with finding a safe country to be settled with your family? (maybe even appreciative)
This is a step in a positive direction for Australia’s contribution to the net population problem of refugees in the world. Its substance over the form.
If it works – it will eventually de-politicise the issue and the language should become more nuanced. (until some bell-end like Howard decides to poison the well & make it a wedge issue again)

Craig have you ever been to PNG? I wouldn’t describe it as safe, the fact we currently accept refugees (women and children) from PNG due to extreme violence, gives you a bit of an idea. How accepting are the HIGHLY Christian PNG society going to be of different people, from different places, with different religions. Check out what goes on to their own if someone suspects “sorcery”

Craig you are on to something there, Malaysia would have been better but the MSM tore that to shreds and now PNG is the result. Greens have a lot to answer for, firstly for blocking the ETS the first time through & for scrapping Malaysia
