Sub-million night for Thursday TV viewers
Commercial audiences went cool on network television on Thursday night, with not a single show apart from Seven and Nine’s news bulletins bringing in more than 1m metro viewers.
Seven’s Dynamo: Magician Impossible was the best performing entertainment show, rating 915,000 and fourth for the night in all people, according to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTAM.
Nine’s The Footy Show was eighth with 864,000 viewers, while ABC1’s Upper Middle Bogan remained solid, ninth for the night with 861,000 viewers.
Also on Nine, Big Brother rated 840,000 while Ten’s Masterchef masterclass rated 610,000, 15th for the night.
In the battle of current affairs, Nine News was top with 1.170m, just ahead of Seven News on 1.123m. Nine’s A Current Affair (967,000) saw off Seven’s Today Tonight (891,000).
Mel Doyle’s Seven News at 4 (190,000) was again seen off by Nine’s Afternoon News (238,000).
Seven’s Sunrise just beat Nine’s Today by 352,000 to 339,000, despite losing in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Big wins in Perth and Adelaide got Sunrise home.
The first session of the rain-interrupted fifth test of The Ashes rated 203,000 for Nine’s Gem.
Nine won the night with a 22 per cent share, followed by Seven with 18.6 per cent and Ten with 13.6 per cent, just ahead of ABC1’s 13 per cent.

I wonder if anyone could generate some ongoing stats to show the numbers of people watching alternative streams, other than terrestrial TV? I.e. Fox, downloads, streaming – or as many people I know, Hulu & Netflix via VPNs.
