Sunday Telegraph partners with Sydney Children’s Hospital Telethon

The Sunday Telegraph launches We’re for Kids Gold Appeal to help raise money for Sydney Children’s Hospital telethon.

The release:

Aims to raise over $500,000 for the Sydney Children’s Hospital in partnership with Coles, Crown Resorts and Channel Nine.

To support the Sydney Children’s Hospital Gold Telethon, The Sunday Telegraph has teamed up with Channel Nine, Coles and Crown Resorts to create the “We’re For Kids Gold Appeal”.

$1 for every Sunday Telegraph sold on Sunday 8 June will be donated to the appeal. The Sunday Telegraph sells over 500,000 copies each week, and is read by over 1.3 million people each week.

News Corp Australia’s NSW state director Brett Clegg said News had been a proud supporter of the Gold Telethon since its inception five years ago.

“We wanted to really step up this year and amplify the message through an impactful editorial series showcasing the stories of kids and their families at the hospital, and, of course, through the $1 for every copy of The Sunday Telegraph sold on June 8,” Mr Clegg said.

“Personally, this has been one of the most rewarding efforts I have been involved with as a publisher. The journalism has been raw and heartfelt, the response from readers and the staff at Randwick has been profound and uplifting, and the knowledge that we have been a good corporate citizen by giving back to our community is really special.”

The Sunday Telegraph editor Mick Carroll said: “The Sydney Children’s Hospital is one of those institutions everyone assumes does some wonderful work, but it is not until you step inside the ward and meet the patients, their families and hospital staff that you truly appreciate how incredible the facility is.”

“Each year Channel Nine does a great job with the Gold Telethon and it is a privilege for the Sunday Tele and its partners to be able to do our bit to pour some money into the kitty.”

The chairman of Crown Resorts Limited, James Packer, said: “Crown Resorts is a proud financial partner of the ‘We’re For Kids Gold Appeal’ and I urge Sydneysiders to do their bit, by buying The Sunday Telegraph this weekend and donating during the Gold Telethon.”

Nine Entertainment Co. CEO David Gyngell said: “The Gold Telethon is an event embraced by all of us at Nine, and requires a really big effort. We’re thrilled to do that of course – to support the extraordinary work of the team at the hospital who dedicate themselves to the care those children in our community who need the very best we can offer. And we’re delighted to join with News Corp Australia in this very important day of broadcast.”

Coles managing director Ian McLeod said Coles was delighted to continue its support for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation by selling “Cheer for the Kids” raffle tickets in 250 supermarkets across NSW this month.

“Thanks to the generosity of our customers, we have raised $2.6 million over the past 14 years to assist the Kids Cancer Centre at the hospital. Through raffle tickets sales this year, we are keen to ensure the hospital can continue their much-needed services in New South Wales,” Mr McLeod said.

The appeal will be supported by a special wrap of The Sunday Telegraph on Sunday 8 June, as well as in-paper advertising, digital, radio, TV support on Channel Nine and point-of-sale promotions at newsagents.
