Telstra offers access to Foxtel Now packs in mobile plan revamp

Telstra will offer mobile customers 12-months free access to Foxtel Now starter content packs along with changed mobile plans from today as the company prepares for the Samsung Note 8 launch.

Users on the new $99 and above Telstra Go Mobile Plus plans will be able to choose up to three Foxtel packages including Pop, Drama, Lifestyle, Kids, and Documentaries options however mobile data usage for accessing these services will count towards monthly data limits.

Michelle Garra, Telstra Media Group executive director

While data will be counted towards Foxtel usage, the company has increased data plans as part of the latest revamp:  “We think we can unlock a whole lot of latent demand,” executive director of the Telstra Media Group, Michele Garra, told Mumbrella.

“Customers are now demanding access to their favourite content on the go, blurring the line between mobile and home entertainment, so we are focused on creating a seamless streaming experience inside and outside the home using the Telstra TV mobile app and exclusive content partners,” continued Garra.

The new plans will see data limits on pre-paid packages increase along with price changes ranging from a $6 a month fall on the ‘XL’ plans to increases of $4 a month on most offers. A new ‘premium plan’ has also been added into the mix.

Telstra expects mobile video content to make up 75% of all mobile network usage in five years’ time, up from today’s 38%.

“We’re thrilled to join forces with Telstra to help customers access our unbeatable entertainment, on their terms, where and when they want,” said Caroline McDaid, Foxtel’s director of wholesale and distribution.

“The last few years have seen an incredible transformation in the way our customers are enjoying their Foxtel subscriptions, from their living rooms to the handheld devices they carry with them every day. Today’s news shows how Foxtel and Telstra are redefining the future of mobile entertainment.”
