The Block boosts slightly ahead of tonight’s final while Ramsay boosts audience for Seven

ramsay's costa del nightmares gordonThe penultimate episode of The Block: Triple Threat could not unseat Seven’s reality juggernaut My Kitchen Rules in the primetime ratings battle last night, while the second episode of Ramsay’s Costa Del Nightmares lifted for Seven.

Heading into tonight’s live auction special The Block mustered a slightly improved audience of 1.141m viewers, up on last week’s 1.039m but well behind MKR which had 1.495m viewers in the 7.30pm timeslot.

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay held almost exactly half of the MKR audience straight after at 9pm, with 751,000 viewers, up from his debut of 719,000 a fortnight ago.

Those shows were enough to hand Channel Seven a comfortable ratings win with 24.3 per cent audience share, against Nine’s 21 per cent, with Ten well back on 12.6 per cent and ABC on 11.6 per cent.

MKR and The Block were the top two shows across all the important advertiser demographics.

In the news battle Nine was the comfortable winner with its 6pm bulletin getting 1.172m viewers, with 1.092m staying on for the 6.30pm showing. Seven mustered 1.014m at 6pm and 988,000 for its 6.30pm bulletin and Today Tonight shows.

Nine’s breakfast show Today got to within 22,000 of rival Sunrise on Seven with 289,000 to 311,000, whilst its Mornings offering also closed in with 126,000 to 139,000 for Seven’s The Morning Show.

On pay-TV a new episode of Wentworth on SoHo had 102,000 viewers, the most-watched show of the night on Foxtel and up on the 98,000 viewers it pulled last week.
