The Block wins the night’s TV with largest Wednesday audience to date

Nine’s The Block managed to top OzTAM’s overnight preliminary ratings on Wednesday night with the show climbing to 1.038m metro viewers – the highest metro rating it has received on a Wednesday so far.

It was also the only program to reach more than 1m viewers last night.

The show was up 80,000 metro viewers from last week’s 957,000, and topped two of three key advertising demographics – the 18-49s and 25-54s.

Rival shows in the same time slot, Ten’s The Bachelor Australia, and Border Security – Australia’s Front Line, attracted 717,000 and 595,000 metro viewers respectively.

The Bachelor managed to win the 16-39 key advertising demographic.

Following the finale of Ten’s drama, Offspring, Nine’s Doctor Doctor climbed more than 70,000 metro viewers, to 704,000.

However, the show did not win in its time slot, with ABC’s Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell dominating at 740,000 metro viewers.

Seven’s Criminal Minds, which also ran at 8:30pm, collected 406,000 metro viewers, while Ten’s movie offering, Dirty Dancing, pulled in a metro audience of 288,000.

ABC’s second episode of Get Krack!n – featuring The Katering Show’s Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan’s attracted 413,000 metro viewers, making it into the top 20 shows of the evening.

The news front saw Nine pinch a win, with 982,000 metro viewers ahead of Seven’s 959,000.

Meanwhile, ABC News had 675,000 metro viewers.

Thanks to The Block and Nine News, Nine won the average audience shares at 22.6%. In second place was Seven at 17%, followed by Ten’s 13.1%, ABC’s 12.9%, and SBS’ 6.1%.
