The Chaser’s journalistic legacy
It’s important to give credit where it’s due, and this week, The Chaser has done just that.
Speaking at the News Media Awards, Craig Reucassel, said: “20 years ago we had the idea of running a newspaper, where there were no journalists, all the stories were made up, and were total bullshit…”
“And we’d just like to really thank The Daily Mail for continuing our legacy after we collapsed,” he quipped. “So thank you to those guys. Let’s hope they can make it work.
The Daily Mail, Dr Mumbo notes, was not the only outlet in The Chaser’s firing line, with Sky News and Paul Murray – “the Masked Sycophant” – also copping a roasting for his easy-going interview with US president Donald Trump.
Andrew Hansen also joined Reucassel in revealing the prizes on offer at News Media Works’ News Media Awards, all of which Dr Mumbo would love to take home.
On offer, was a round-the-world trip for two, courtesy of Thomas Cook Travel.
Two tickets to the studio audience of Saturday Night Rove.
And, a master class in journalism from Paul Murray himself.
The duo conceded: “These prizes were booked in a long time ago”.
