The Hallway parts ways with Hugh Nairn

Former BWM Melbourne MD and Big Red partner and chief executive, Hugh Nairn, has parted ways with The Hallway, just seven months after he signed on to work with the creative agency. However, while he was positioned at the time as national managing partner, he only joined in a consultant capacity and has been been working as a consultant via his own agency Cavalry for more than four years.

Nairn’s remit at The Hallway was to assist the agency in bringing in more clients, off wins such as the Kmart digital and customer experience (CX) projects and work for Foxtel’s Binge.

“I personally enjoyed my time working with Hugh and wish him all the very best in his future endeavours,” The Hallway’s chief executive, Jules Hall, told Mumbrella.

Nairn said he had continued consulting to a number of businesses throughout his time with The Hallway, and that it was never an exclusive arrangement.

“Hallway was one of my clients, it was only ever a consultant role,” Nairn told Mumbrella.

Nairn left Big Red in 2016, and has since served in a variety of roles, including executive producer at creative content company Positive Ape, chief executive of Trethowan Group – which he refers to as a “Nairn family company”.

The Cavalry provides three key areas of support for agencies: Think, create and make.

“As someone who has grown businesses in the past, I consult to either individuals or agencies to help them progress to the next level,” he said.

Nairn also works directly with a number of brands via Cavalry, particularly in the FMCG, financial services and real estate sectors.

The Hallway recently also parted ways with managing partner, Hannah Sturrock, as part of an ‘operational restructure’ which took place in December.

Sturrock started out at the agency as head of operations and chief of staff before becoming group head and finally being elevated to managing partner in 2018.
