‘At the moment it is not an equal partnership’: ARIA and record labels hit Senate for Fair Pay hearings

Australia’s biggest record labels will join ARIA and the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia in Canberra today to support the Fair Pay for Radio Play Bill 2023.

The Bill, introduced by Senator David Pocock, amends the Copyright Act 1968 to remove a cap on royalties payable to rights holders when music is played on commercial and ABC radio.

“Today we make our case for a level playing field,” ARIA and PPCA CEO, Annabelle Herd, said, “for the very simple and reasonable right to have a conversation with radio about the fair market value of a sound recording.
