Tissot: try on a virtual watch
Swiss watchmaker Tissot is inviting consumers to try its different styles using augmented reality technology.
Wearing a paper wristband, consumers will be able to see how the watches look on their wrists in 3D, and play with touch screen features.
Users can take a picture of themselves and post it to twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #TissotReality to enter a competition to win a watch.
The promotion – which is running from November 11 to 30 – includes a give-away of a Tissot Racing Touch watch on each day.
To enter, those who try or buy a watch can scan the QR code from the window or paper watch and enter via the Tissot microsite, tissot.com.au/reality.
The promotion is running at JR Duty Free stores in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
This is nice…and it resulted in 80% increase in instore sales for Tissot in UK. Who could argue with that? With results like this, why are Australian retailers so slow to use this tech?
Logically people liked to try on the great watches without the laborious and risky cabinet, keys and stroppy/disinterested sales assistant. However…. wouldnt it be better if you didnt have to wear a paper tag to trigger the digital overlay of watches on your wrist? Wouldn’t it be better if you could keep the engagement going “after hours” or also at home… what if you could recognise the outline of the wrist or the fingers for rings… check out Boutique Accessories augmented reality for non-paper based digital interaction and try on. Augmented Reality with motion capture and gesture based control is the logical step with immediate ROI and PR for fashion retail.

Saw this on the weekend on Swanson Street. Pretty cool. Try it out for yourself, if only to get the thoughts running of ‘how could my clients do this?’
