Tony Jones talks turkey with Talcott
It was interesting to see the ABC’s Q&A host Tony Jones in action at the Ogilvy recession busting seminar without the backup of a troop of researchers.
And although he handled the debate well enough, he found himself in a sticky situation early on as he began to introduce the panel.
Starting at the far right of the stage, he profiled the first pundit, Ian Higgins of OgilvyEarth.
Next along was News Ltd’s Joe Talcott. But before introducing him, Jones abruptly veered off to the far left and started working his way along the panellists from that side – until the awkward moment came when he was back to Talcott, and Jones had to confess: “Joe – I don’t have any details on you.”
To which Talcott helpfully replied: “I grew up on a turkey farm, Tony.”
Meanwhile, Jones found it hard to hold back on his scepticism about all things social media. Brian Giesen, Ogilvy PR’s director of digital strategy, told the meeting: “Reading blogs is one way to stay ahead of trends.”
To which Jones responded: “I’ve never found that.’
Can’t imagine anyone better than Tony Jones to host an event like that.

Hi David,
Indeed – he was very good. I presume he must do a lot of corporate gigs like this. Like the Chaser, it’s how these ABC types supplement their (I guess) below-market-rate tax payer funded salaries.
Cheers,
