Totem taps Vice for new head of strategy and business role

Australian social video growth and monetisation network, Totem Network, has appointed Alice Kimberley to the newly created role of head of strategy and business affairs, as well as making two additional hires across its audience development, content and growth teams.

Kimberley joins Totem Network to lead new product development, strategic partnerships with social platforms, industry bodies and Totem Network’s growing portfolio of media and creator partners.

With a background in media and entertainment, Kimberley joined Totem having had previous experience at Live Nation and C3 prior to Vice, where she was group strategy director and part of the leadership team.

Totem Network CEO Steve Crombie said, “We’re investing in and actively recruiting the best and brightest in online media to help creators and rights holders make money from their video content. As we continue to expand, I am thrilled to welcome these new additions to the team to fulfil our mission of exporting Australian content to the world.”

Kimberley commented on her new role: “I’ve always been drawn to challengers of the status quo, and Totem is no exception. We are witnessing one of the most fundamental paradigm shifts in online video in recent memory; the once adversarial relationship between rights holders and social platforms has been replaced by a new order in which social monetisation offers a very real, and potentially very lucrative, future. It is energising to disprove the narrative of imminent collapse that has long pervaded Australian media and entertainment.”

In addition, Josh Prince, formerly of kids’ content company WildBrain, Endemol Shine UK and Fremantle Media UK, has also joined Totem Network as channel manager, and Caitlin Jones, who brings social monetisation expertise from Little Dot Studios and Valleyarm, has taken the role of network coordinator.
