Two new executive directors announced

Tourism Western Australia, the State Government’s tourism and major events agency, has appointed two new executive directors.

CEO Stephanie Buckland said an extensive recruitment search was held to find two outstanding candidates for the organisation’s Executive Director Marketing and Executive Director Eventscorp roles.

“I am pleased to announce that Simon Burley will be the agency’s new Executive Director Marketing while Gwyn Dolphin will take on the role of Executive Director Eventscorp,” Ms Buckland said.

“Both candidates were standouts in their respective fields and I am confident they will make a valuable contribution to the State’s tourism and events industries.”

Mr Burley has an impressive marketing background having been the global brand director of Beefeater and Plymouth Gin, and previously Ballantine’s Scotch Whisky, with international beverage company Pernod Ricard. His experience includes working in some of Western Australia’s key Asian markets such as China, South Korea and Japan to establish the Ballantine’s Championship and promote golf partnerships for Ballantine’s through Asia.

“Simon’s marketing credentials are exceptional and I look forward to working with him to further develop the State’s Experience Extraordinary brand and expand our international and domestic markets,” Ms Buckland said.

Mr Dolphin joins Tourism WA with an extensive international background, most recently at the Welsh Rugby Union and Millennium Stadium, where he was group marketing director with a remit covering all events and commercial operations. He previously managed Ford’s €100 million sponsorship of the UEFA Champions League football, was a managing partner in the WPP Group, ran Vodafone’s global sports investments and, as an employee at Toyota, was a major part of the World Rally Championship-winning operation.

“As Eventscorp’s Executive Director, Mr Dolphin will oversee a $36.7 million budget and the Government’s sponsorship of around 85 events on the State’s diverse calendar,” Ms Buckland said.

“He will also lead the Eventscorp team in developing and attracting new and exciting events to WA.”

Ms Buckland said she was pleased to have secured two outstanding professionals to help attract more visitors to the State.
