Tourism Whitsundays, Flight Centre Travel Academy target students

Flight Centre Travel Academy, along with Tourism Whitsundays are giving Australia’s tourism students the opportunity to experience one of Australia’s premier destinations, thanks to their Work, Study and Play program based in the Whitsundays.

The program will allow students to take on a Travel and Tourism Diploma facilitated by Flight Centre Travel Academy and Torrens University, connect with work opportunities in the local industry, and enjoy a number of travel benefits.

Work, Study and Play in the Whitsundays was first launched in November 2021 and has already received interest from 1,700 potential students, of which more than 80 students have already been enrolled, with another 75 students pending.

Flight Centre Travel Academy general manager, Cameron Boyd, said the response to the program had been overwhelming, and very encouraging for both future students and the travel and tourism industry.

“The feedback we have received from students is that they are seeking new experiences and they like the opportunity to move, travel and try something new whilst studying.” said Boyd.

“Bringing the Work, Study + Play program to The Whitsundays in 2022 is very exciting, we look forward to seeing our students thrive in their new environment and the growth of the program as it continues to develop,”

The program is hoped to offer huge benefits for the tourism reliant region, which relies heavily on a steady stream of experienced hospitality and tourism staff.

The project is part of a Federal Government initiative to build back Australia’s hospitality and tourism industry and received funding under Recovery for Regional Tourism program, which falls under the $1 billion COVID-19 Relief and Recovery Fund.

Tourism Whitsunday’s CEO Rick Hamilton said: “Students wishing to study and work in The Whitsundays will experience exclusive adventures with luxury resort destinations, travel benefits, sustainability and eco-tourism experiences which will go a long way to support them throughout their careers.”

“In an ever-changing world, this program enables students to complete their studies in a destination like no other, all the while experiencing some amazing benefits. If you are looking for a sign to Work, Study + Play in the Heart of the Great Barrier Reef, this is it.”
