TV ad of the month shortlist: Carlton Draught; ‘Dickhead’; Earth Choice, Honda; TED
The finalists for the first round of Mumbrella’s TV ad of the month award can today be revealed.
The shortlist includes two controversial ads – the Carlton Draught “Tingle” ad by Clemenger BBDO Melbourne which was pulled after a few days by the brewer’s senior management and the “Don’t Be A Dickhead” road safety ad for VicRoads.
As we reported last week, the competition will each month seek out the best video ads that launched in any given month. Because March was the first month of the competition, we have also allowed leeway for ads that first ran in late February.
The shortlist has been drawn up based on self nominations, Mumbrella’s own choices and reader submissions. The winners are decided by Mumbrella readers.
The competition is sponsored by Dubsat.
You can read more about each ad by clicking on the links below.
(TVCs are eligible whichever screen format they first ran on including TV, cinema and the web.)
The shortlist:
- Earth Choice – CHE
- Honda CRV – Draft FCB
- Carlton Draught – Clemenger BBDO
- Toohey’s Extra Dry – TED
- Don’t Be A Dickhead – Downwind Productions
Mumbrella readers can vote below.
You can vote here (please note, only one vote from each IP address will be counted). Voting runs until the end of Friday:

Earth Choice for my vote – it actually made me stop and think about my kitchen and laundry detergent. Plus, the execution and creative idea was excellent and definitely to brief.

Earth Choice gets my vote – nicely done.

I still think it’s funny that the Dickhead “Facebook” ad is showing Twitter, not FB, on the laptop.

Yeh like the Earth Choice one but reminds me too much of that one with the chicken being rubbed all over the kitchen for some kitchen wipes or another.

The Earth Choice ad for sure. It must be the first ad in years that has actually disgusted me for the right reasons.

earth’s choice definitely the pick.
sick of extra dry ads that make no sense, and don’t actually ‘say’ anything. feels like i’m being yelled at in another language

I like the earth choice ad too but it’s a real pity the earth choice product is not as pure as the ads portray.
From seeing the ads I did a bit of research and found

Do you think the reality doesn’t matter as long as the creative is good?

Earth choice by far. CRV 2nd – it has a good feeling as did the last CRV execution did a few years ago.

To be fair the TED spot is a teaser for a much bigger campaign.
The others are stand alone ads.
With that said, I’ll go the Carlton ad.

I saw the Earth Choice ad & promptly went to a local Greek restaurant so I could eat an octopus. Not sure if that was the objective but it worked for me.

I just found out about this comp – so I guess we are too late to enter Lifeline’s new community service announcements that were launched in March. Would we have been in the short list?
