TV ratings wrap: Big Brother finale brought in 876,000 metro viewers

The TV ratings for some of last week’s key television milestones have finally been released, with OzTAM drip feeding the missing numbers over the coming days.

The data has been delayed due to a ransomware attack on Nielsen.

The results reveal the Big Brother final on Seven had 876,000 metro viewers for its winner announcement, and 769,000 for the primary episode last Wednesday.

In the same timeslot, Ten’s Bachelor in Paradise had 499,000, and Nine’s RBT had 560,000.

Big Brother managed to top the key advertising demographics of those aged 18 to 49 and 25 to 54 with the winner announcement, however Bachelor in Paradise swooped in and took out the younger 16 to 39s.

In the absence of the final numbers, CEO of Seven James Warburton had already declared Big Brother a success, saying it had changed the game for the network and was just the start of its new content strategy.

“The start of our new content-led growth strategy with Big Brother has driven huge demographic and BVOD results and taken us back to number one, not just in total people but in the core demographic of 25 to 54s. When we get our 7:30pm tent-pole strategy competitive, our dominant spine of Sunrise, The Morning Show, The Chase, Seven News, Home and Away and the AFL sees us dominate the ratings,” he said last week while the numbers were missing.

Seven won the night on the night of Big Brother’s finale, with Seven News also topping the ratings ladder on 1.174m metro viewers. The primary channel had a 20.6% share, ahead of Nine’s 18.7%, ABC’s 13.8% and Ten’s 12.0%. The network also had a winning 28.0% share.

Seven also won the night prior (Tuesday, 21 July) when Big Brother had an overnight metro audience of 832,000. That night, it topped all three key advertising demographics.
