TV Wrap: The Ashes hands Nine another overnight and weekly win

Day four of the Ashes’ third test on Nine wrapped up on top of Sunday’s free-to-air entertainment programming, as the network also celebrated a weekly win.

Session one of the game aired to 722,000 metro viewers last night, while the lunch slot brought in 583,000 metro viewers. Session one also topped all three key advertising demos.

Thanks to the Ashes, Nine Network topped the week ended 8 July with a 33.2% share, followed by Seven with 27.6% and Ten with 15.4%.

Nine (19.8%) and 9Gem (8.3%) were also respectively the top-rated primary and multichannel of the week.

Back to Sunday overnights, Seven’s Dancing with the Stars closely followed with 582,000 metro viewers, while MasterChef Australia attracted 463,000 metro viewers for Ten.

The #1 metro program of the night was Seven News with 932,000 viewers.

Nine Network won the night with 41.7% overall network share, as well as having the top-rated multichannel 9Gem (20.7%). But the top-rated multichannel was Seven with 19.3%.

In the latest Daily Consolidated 7 Total TV Report for 2 July, Seven News was the #1 program with a Total TV audience of 1.404 million, with a 3% uplift and 37,000 on national BVOD.

Silent Witness on ABC had the biggest uplift of 50%, with a total audience of 618,000 and BVOD audience of 76,000.
