Social media platform Twitter has hired FremantleMedia’s director of digital Tony Broderick as its new Australian head of TV partnerships.

Broderick has been with Fremantle in Australia for the last two years and was in charge of social media content and engagement for shows including The X Factor and Australia’s Got Talent.

He started with Twitter last week and is responsible for the Australian offices’ partnerships with the major TV networks and production agencies and is also expected to oversee an expanding television team at Twitter Australia.

Globally Twitter is seeking deeper engagement and partnerships with TV broadcasters as it looks for a bigger slice of the marketing dollars, pushing its credentials as the biggest second-screen experience for event TV.

The appointment is one of a series of  hires Twitter has made since it decided to open an office in Australia at the start of the year.

Among its appointments are former Google executive Karen Stocks who is the Australian managing director, Jonno Simpson who is head of sports partnerships and Danny Keens as head of media partnerships.

Broderick came across from the UK in 2012 where he was with Fremantle’s UK division FremantleMedia UK Interactive.
