UM retains Coca-Cola media account after agency review

IPG Mediabrands’ media agency UM has retained Coca-Cola South Pacific’s account after an agency review.

The account, estimated to be worth around $20m, covers Coca-Cola’s operations across Australia, New Zealand and Oceania.

UM won the account from Ikon in 2014 and retaining the account is the latest success for the media agency which won the $175m Australian government master account from Dentsu X last year, picked up Lion Beer’s Heineken Brands, and retained the K-Mart account in another competitive pitch.

Coca-Cola’s South Pacific account covers brands including Cascade, Goulburn Valley, Fanta and Sprite.

A company spokesperson said in a statement: “Coca-Cola South Pacific did invite media agencies to participate in an agency review process and demonstrate how they could support the Cola-Cola business in Australia and in New Zealand.

“We wanted to ensure that Coca-Cola has the strongest possible media agencies in these markets, so we can continue to deliver fantastic campaigns from some of the world’s biggest brands like Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite and Powerade.

“This activity is part of our regular cycle of agency reviews with our current agencies in Australia and New Zealand taking part in the process.

“The review process is now complete and UM has retained our business in Australia and we will expand the relationship to also include New Zealand.

“Coca-Cola South Pacific is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Coca-Cola Company. We provide marketing and services support for our bottling partners in Australia, New Zealand and across the South Pacific.”
