Vogue’s Sigourney Cantelo departs to run her own site
The beauty and health director of NewsLifeMedia’s fashion brand Vogue has left the title to focus on her newly launched website Beauticate.
Sigourney Cantelo will now work on the site full time after launching it in February.
Cantelo joined Vogue on 2008, initially as beauty editor, after being part of the team for Glamour, which was shelved before launch.
She has also been beauty editor of titles including New Woman and RUSSH
Cantelo is one of a growing number of senior magazine journalists to make the transition to online. Other success stories have included Mamamia founder Mia Freedma, I Quit Sugar mastermind Sarah Wilson and The Carousel’s Robyn Foyster.
She said: “It’s been so encouraging watching Beauticate grow and I’m incredibly excited to take the site to the next level. Beauty is, by nature, demonstrative and the digital world offers endless possibilities to bring really useful tips and techniques to life.”
Also working on the site is former Vogue and broadsheet journalist Madeleine Boyd along with contributing beauty writers Ashley Ropati and Chrisanthi Kaliviotis along with beauty assistant Jasmine Turvey.
Like a carrot tied to a donkey, media follows the ad dollars. Sorry print, the ad dollars are decreasingly going your way.

Am I the only one that thinks this is wrong? NFM paid her to do a job, meanwhile she sets up a competitor? As an aside, you can’t compete with a brand like vogue.

Another Agency I agree, it’s a bit rough …at least resign first then set up the competitor…and Vogue is a big beast to take on.

Hi Another Agency,
I notice there are no ads on the site yet. so I’m not sure the competitor argument would hold up. Plenty of journalists run sites as hobbies, then go it alone later on https://mumbrella.com.au/print-edition-of-dynamic-business-closes-after-20-years-119687
